Join the Freedom to Walk Foundation to raise funds for Jole Hope's WalkAide®. She is 12 yrs old and was born with optic nerve hypoplasia, which has left Jole Legally Blind. Since 3 years old, Jole has been wearing a brace on her right leg due to a hemiparesis, a muscular weakness on her right side. Be part of improving the quality of life for Jole Hope with her own WalkAide®. Register for the Charity Golf Event or Sponsorship Opportunities, go to www.FreedomToWalkFoundation.org/Charity-Golf-Event. If you are unable to attend, donate at www.FreedomToWalkFoundation.org/Donate. Every dollar donated will bring Jole Hope a step closer to the Freedom and Independence that a WalkAide® will provide to her and her family. Freedom to Walk Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in January 2013 with a primary focus of assisting with funds for the purchase of WalkAides® for children and adults experiencing Foot Drop caused by upper motor neuron injuries or conditions such as: Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury, and Traumatic Brain Injury. Foot Drop is a condition characterized by weakness or paralysis of the muscles involved in lifting the front part of the foot necessary for people to walk. It causes a person to either drag the foot and toes or engage in a high-stepping walk called steppage gait. WalkAide® is a revolutionary, electronic device which alleviates the symptoms and complications of Foot Drop. When worn on the calf, the WalkAide® sends electric impulses to the affected foot causing the foot and leg to lift and follow through as they would with a natural, unimpaired gait. WalkAide® was designed to restore mobility to those individuals seeking a return to independence. The WalkAide® is FDA approved, but most insurance companies are denying coverage for the device. With an out of pocket cost of $5,000 per unit, the cost is prohibitive for many who see the WalkAide® as an invaluable opportunity to improve their quality of life.
